In this interactive and collaborative presentation, I will share research-based strategies demonstrating how giving students’ choices can motivate and engage the developing reader. For many students, reading has been a mysterious concept that they have never quite mastered. Usually textbooks readings are assigned beyond their lexile level. As a result, students become frustrated, sometimes affecting their classroom behavior. Let’s offer them choices and opportunities for real, relevant and relatable methods of interaction with text.
